# OpenVZ end-of-life information

OpenVZ is no longer actively developed or maintained by either the vendor or the community. We understand that many customers still rely on their OpenVZ-based servers, which is why we have chosen to continue operating the platform during its final phase before end-of-life.

### Limited support and functionality

As of January 1, 2024, OpenVZ is no longer supported by our support team. In addition, the platform now operates with limited functionality.

Please note that it is no longer possible to scale or upgrade server resources.

From this date onward, the following actions remain available for OpenVZ servers:

* View servers and server properties\
  (statistics and resource usage are no longer available)
* Start server
* Restart server
* Shut down server
* Open console
* Delete server

Any data restored from backups will be restored to a KVM or VMware server instead of OpenVZ.

Because the future stability and compatibility of OpenVZ is uncertain, we strongly recommend migrating to our KVM or VMware platforms as soon as possible to reduce the risk of service disruption or data loss.

### Migration offer

As a final migration incentive, we are offering **two months free server cost** when moving to a new KVM server.

Contact <support@glesys.com> to receive your migration promo code.

### How do I migrate?

We recommend creating a new server on our KVM or VMware platform and manually migrating your applications and data using tools such as `rsync`.

This approach also gives you the opportunity to upgrade to a newer operating system while keeping your existing server online during the migration process.

### IP address changes

Unfortunately, IP addresses cannot be moved between the VPS platforms.

If your applications or services depend heavily on a specific IP address, we may still be able to help you find a suitable solution. Please contact <support@glesys.com> to discuss available options.

### How to identify an OpenVZ Server

Log in to [Glesys Control Panel](https://cloud.glesys.com?utm_source=chatgpt.com) and review your server list.

Servers with an ID beginning with `vz` (for example, `vz12345`) are OpenVZ servers. Please include this server ID when contacting support.

### VPS platforms – what’s the difference?

Glesys offers two VPS platforms: KVM and VMware.

**KVM**

KVM is our newest platform and provides a cost-effective solution with support for the latest operating systems. With direct access to local storage, KVM is optimized for I/O-intensive workloads.

KVM is currently available in:

* Falkenberg
* Stockholm
* Oulu

**VMware**

VMware offers High Availability, isolated networking, and the ability to connect servers to local networks. It also provides broader operating system compatibility.

VMware is currently available in:

* Falkenberg
* Stockholm
* Oulu
* Oslo
* Amsterdam
* London
