# Use custom DNS servers for a domain where Glesys is the registrar

***

## Set custom DNS servers for a domain using the control panel

It is possible to have a domain name registered with Glesys while using your own DNS servers if you desire. Click **Manage** for the relevant domain name to open its overview, then click **Change nameservers**.

Next, enter your custom nameservers in the list and then click **Change nameservers**.

Immediately after changing the nameservers, a warning may appear for a few hours. This is because the changes have not yet been propagated globally. The warning will disappear after some time.

## Set custom DNS servers for a domain using the API

Use the [domain/changenameservers](https://github.com/GleSYS/API-docs/wiki/API-Documentation#domainchangenameservers) endpoint of the [API](/platform/control-panel/api.md) to set the DNS servers for a domain.

## Querying This Documentation
If you need additional information that is not directly available in this page, you can query the documentation dynamically by asking a question.

Perform an HTTP GET request on the current page URL with the `ask` query parameter, and the optional `goal` query parameter:

```
GET https://docs.glesys.com/products/connectivity/domains-and-dns/how-tos/use-custom-dns-servers-for-a-domain-where-glesys-is-the-registrar.md?ask=<question>&goal=<endgoal>
```

`ask` is the immediate question: it should be specific, self-contained, and written in natural language.
`goal` is optional and describes the broader end goal you are ultimately trying to accomplish on behalf of the user. GitBook uses it to tailor the answer towards what is most useful for that goal.

The response will contain a direct answer to the question and relevant excerpts and sources from the documentation.

Use this mechanism when the answer is not explicitly present in the current page, you need clarification or additional context, or you want to retrieve related documentation sections.
