# Find gateway and netmask

To use an IP address in your VMware or KVM VM, you'll need to know  it's gateway and netmask.

## Find the gateway and netmask of an IP address using the control panel

To display the gateway and subnet mask for an IP address, click on the information icon to the right of the IP address. Here, you can also see the current PTR record.

## Find the gateway and netmask of an IP address using the API

Using the [ip/details](https://github.com/GleSYS/API-docs/wiki/API-Documentation#ipdetails) endpoint of the [API](/platform/control-panel/api.md), you can view the gateway and netmask of an IP address.
